The northern channel, <a href="ssr:862309" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="63.25984" data-lng="8.49812" data-municipality="Aure" data-type="Sund i sjø">Smalsundet</a>, is deeper but more complicated to navigate, as several shoals marked with iron rods lie consecutively mid-channel.</p>
<p>A bridge crosses the sound — <a href="ssr:814733" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="63.26068" data-lng="8.49891" data-municipality="Aure" data-type="Bru">Smalsundbrua</a> — with a clearance height of 8 meters. The best approach to <a href="ssr:316062" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="63.22702" data-lng="8.51532" data-municipality="Aure" data-type="Sund i sjø">Mjosundet</a> is therefore from the north, where the channels are wider and clearer. Keep well clear of the 2-meter shoal west of <a href="ssr:680318" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="63.26663" data-lng="8.47885" data-municipality="Aure" data-type="Holme i sjø">Staurholmen</a>.
