<p>The waters surrounding the Ona archipelago are very dangerous. To the north and northeast, there are several smaller groups of skerries. The northernmost is Galderskjæra, which marks the end of the skerries outside the inner passage from Breisundet to Bud. Between these groups of skerries, there are several channels leading into Ona and the inner passage, but none of them should be attempted without a pilot or local knowledge. In storms, waves can break on shallows of 20–30 meters. The current in the channels sets southward and inward with rising water, northward and outward with falling water.</p>

<p>Farvannet omkring øygruppen Ona er meget urent. N- og NE-over ligger flere mindre grupper av skjær. Den N-ligste er Galderskjæra, som avslutter skjærgården utenfor den indre leia fra Breisundet til Bud. Mellom disse gruppene av skjær fører flere løp inn til Ona og leia innenfor, men ingen av dem bør søkes uten los eller lokalkjennskap. I storm kan det bryte på 20–30 meters dype grunner. Strømmen i løpene setter inn- og S-over med stigende vann, ut- og N-over med fallende.</p>
