<p>From Forlandsundet, St. Jonsfjorden cuts eastwards inland about 13 NM with a width of 1.5-3 NM.<br>On both sides the fjord is surrounded by 600-800 m high mountain summits separated by glaciers. On the north side the glaciers, which to a large extent run into the sea, while on the south side they end on land. It is comparatively deep near the shore along both sides of the fjord.</p>
<p>On the north side of the fjord mouth, about 1 NM south of Ankerneset, lies Farmgrunnen, a stony ridge with rocks awash, about 3 cables long, which is dangerous to shipping. Of other shoals there is an 7.6 m underwater rock about 6 cables from the shore on the south side of the fjord, about 2 NM inside the fjord mouth, and also underwater rocks in Gaffelbukta, outside Gaffelbreen.</p>

<p>Fra Forlandsundet skjærer St. Jonsfjorden seg ca. 13 n mil E-over inn i landet med en bredde på 1.5–3 n mil. Denne fjorden er på begge sidene omgitt av 6-800 m høye fjelltopper atskilt av breer. Breene på N-siden går stort sett i sjøen, mens de på S-siden ender på land. Det er forholdsvis nærdypt langs fjorden på begge sider.</p>
<p>På N-siden av fjordmunningen, ca. 1 n mil S av Ankerneset, ligger Farmgrunnen, en ca. 3 kabellengder lang steinrygg med skvalpeskjær som er farlige for skipsfarten. Av grunner ellers ligger det en 7.6 m grunne ca. 6 kabellengder av land på S-siden av fjorden, ca. 2 n mil innenfor munningen, og videre flere grunner i Gaffelbukta utenfor Gaffelbreen.</p>
<p>Ved valg av ankerplass i St. Jonsfjorden må man regne med kalvis fra breene i fjorden og drivis fra Forlandsundet.</p>

<p>Surveys are incomplete in the area. Soundings within unsurveyed areas and those compiled from incomplete older surveys are unreliable and do not fully exclude undiscovered shoals. Navigation within these waters should be avoided whenever possible. Attention should be paid to the Source Diagram.</p>
<h3>Shallow areas near shoreline</h3>
<p>Close to the shore, there can be unsurveyed areas or areas of poor data quality. Due to the chart's scale such areas are not always visible on nautical Charts. Navigation in these waters must be exercised with extreme caution.</p>
<h3>Front of glaciers</h3>
<p>Limits of glaciers are subject to frequent change. In front of glaciers going into the sea, there are major variations from year to year, and depths are uncertain. Such areas must be considered as unsurveyed. Such conditions must be taken into account when navigating in these waters and caution exercised.</p>

<h3>Sjømålingsdata</h3>
<p>Området er ikke fullstendig oppmålt. Dybder innenfor ikke sjømålte områder og områder basert på eldre, ufullstendige målinger er upålitelige, og utelukker ikke muligheten for uoppdagede grunner. Navigasjon i disse farvannene bør unngås så langt det lar seg gjøre. Det må vises særlig oppmerksomhet til karets kildediagram (Source Diagram).</p>
<h3>Grunne områder nær land</h3>
<p>Nær kystlinjen kan det forekomme ikke sjømålte områder eller områder med dårlig datakvalitet. På grunn av sjøkartets målestokk er slike områder ikke alltid synlige. Navigasjon i disse farvannene må utøves med ekstrem forsiktighet.</p>
<h3>Foran isbreer</h3>
<p>Isbreers utbredelse endres hyppig. Foran breer som munner ut i sjøen forekommer store variasjoner fra år til år, og dybdeforholdene er usikre. Slike områder må betraktes som ikke sjømålte. Disse forholdene må tas i betraktning ved navigasjon, og forsiktighet må utvises.</p>
