It is strongly warned against relying on the distance to S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya appearing sufficient, as the island is low (highest point 15 m) and the situation can therefore be misjudged. In the extension of the reef southward from S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya, there may still be undiscovered ridges.</div> <div class="highlighted-content svelte-5y6fil">&nbsp;</div> <div class="highlighted-content svelte-5y6fil">Approximately 2 NM south of S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya lies S&oslash;rkappfallet, where the sea usually breaks heavily. With Hohenlohfjellet clear of &Oslash;yrlandsodden, one can avoid this bank and the underwater rocks on the western side of S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya. The tidal currents run violently back and forth between the islets south of S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya, and it is very important to consider the current. Det advares sterkt mot &aring; stole p&aring; at avstanden til S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya synes &aring; v&aelig;re god nok, da &oslash;ya er lav (h&oslash;yeste punkt 15 m) og situasjonen kan derfor feilvurderes. I forlengelsen av revet S-over fra S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya kan det fortsatt v&aelig;re uoppdagede grunnrygger.</p> <p>Ca. 2 n mil S av S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya, ligger S&oslash;rkappfallet, hvor sj&oslash;en som regel g&aring;r i sv&aelig;re brott. Med Hohenlohfjellet fri av &Oslash;yrlandsodden g&aring;s det klar av dette fallet og grunnene p&aring; W-siden av S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya. Tidevannsstr&oslash;mmene l&oslash;per voldsomt fram og tilbake mellom holmene S om S&oslash;rkapp&oslash;ya,og det er meget viktig &aring; ta str&oslash;mmen i betraktning. caution_en <h3>Radar Navigation</h3> <p>When using radar as an aid for coastal navigation, it is important to note that at greater distances from the shore, mountains will appear on the radar before the edges of the wide lowland plains west of them are apparent.</p> <h3>Ice and Current Conditions</h3> <div class="mb-4"> <div class="card"> <div class="card-body"> <div class="highlighted-content svelte-5y6fil">Along the western coast of Spitsbergen, one can expect a northward current of 1-2 knots. This current will also carry ice into the fjords, particularly on the southern side and out again on the northern side (Coriolis effect), where it will spread more under calm wind conditions. In such weather, one can expect loose ice with larger open channels on the northern side than on the southern side of the fjords. The current out from Isfjorden will, when there are not too many ice masses, tend to stop the northward ice drift at Sentinelleflaket. In all cases, conditions should be carefully assessed before entering the ice, as currents and especially wind can quickly change the situation to denser ice and compression of the channels.</div> <div class="highlighted-content svelte-5y6fil"> <h3>Survey data</h3> <p>Surveys are incomplete in the area. Soundings within unsurveyed areas and those compiled from incomplete older surveys are unreliable and do not fully exclude undiscovered shoals. Navigation within these waters &nbsp;should be avoided whenever possible. Attention should be paid to the Source Diagram.</p> <h3>Shallow areas near shoreline</h3> <p>Close to the shore, there can be unsurveyed areas or areas of poor data quality. Due to the chart's scale such areas are not always visible on nautical Charts. Navigation in these waters must be exercised with extreme caution.</p> <h3>Front of glaciers</h3> <p>Limits of glaciers are subject to frequent change. In front of glaciers going into the sea, there are major &nbsp;variations from year to year, and depths are uncertain. Such areas must be considered as unsurveyed. Such &nbsp;conditions must be taken into account when navigating in these waters and caution exercised.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div>

Denne str&oslash;mmen vil ogs&aring; ta med seg isen inn&nbsp;i fjordene, s&aelig;rlig p&aring; S-siden og ut igjen p&aring; N-siden (Corioliseffekt),&nbsp;hvor den under rolige vindforhold vil spre seg mer. I&nbsp;slikt v&aelig;r kan man vente slakere is med st&oslash;rre r&aring;ker p&aring; N- enn&nbsp;p&aring; S-siden av fjordene. Foran breer som munner ut i sj&oslash;en forekommer store variasjoner fra &aring;r til &aring;r, og dybdeforholdene er usikre. Slike omr&aring;der m&aring; betraktes som ikke sj&oslash;m&aring;lte. Disse forholdene m&aring; tas i betraktning ved navigasjon, og forsiktighet m&aring; utvises.</p>
