<p>Vanylvsfjorden is the continuation in a SE direction of Vanylvsgapet and Haugsfjorden. It splits into two branches at the innermost part, Kjødspollen and Syltefjorden.<br />The Slagnes Peninsula (Vanylven) separates these two fjord branches. Vanylvsfjorden is surrounded by fairly high mountains, mostly covered with heather and grass. Here and there, there is some forest, primarily plantations. As the nautical chart shows, navigation does not pose a significant difficulty, as the fjord is relatively clean. The shoals that can be dangerous for navigation are marked.<br />There is considerable settlement along the shores, but it is not densely populated. There are several usable harbors and anchorages in the fjord.</p>
<p>High tide and low tide in the fjord occur roughly simultaneously with the coast outside, but the tidal difference increases slightly inward in the fjord. The tidal current flows into the fjords with rising water and out with falling,<br />and is usually strongest about 3 hours before and after HW (LW). <br />Apart from places with significant narrows, the tidal currents are generally weak. The current conditions will largely be determined by wind conditions and the amount of freshwater supplied by the rivers.</p>
<h3>Ice Conditions</h3>
<p>Some of the fjord bottoms can be ice-covered in winter. Otherwise, the ice does not hinder navigation.</p>
<h3>Radio Beacons<br />There are no radio beacons in the Sunnmørsfjords.</h3>

<p>Vanylvsfjorden er fortsettelsen i SE-lig retning av Vanylvsgapet og Haugsfjorden. Den deler seg innerst i to armer, Kjødspollen og Syltefjorden.<br />Slagneshalvøya (Vanylven) skiller disse to fjordarmene. Vanylvsfjorden er omgitt av temmelig høye, for det meste lyng- og graskledde fjell. Hist og her finnes litt skog, mest plantefelt. Som sjøkartet viser, byr seilasen ikke på noen større vanskelighet, da fjorden er forholdsvis ren. De grunner som kan være farlige for seilasen, er merket.<br />Det er atskillig bebyggelse langs strendene, men det er ikke tettgrendt. Det er flere brukbare havner og ankerplasser i fjorden.</p>
<p>Høyvann og lavvann i fjorden inntrer omtrent samtidig som på kysten utenfor, men tidevannsforskjellen øker litt innover i fjorden. Tidevannsstrømmen går inn fjordene med stigende vann og ut på fallende,<br />og den er som regel sterkest ca. 3 timer for og etter HW (LW). <br />Bortsett fra steder med markerte innsnevringer er tidevannsstrømmene generelt svake. Strømforholdene vil i stor grad være bestemt av vindforholdene og av mengden ferskvann som tilføres fra elvene.</p>
<h3>Isforhold</h3>
<p>Enkelte av fjordbunnene kan være islagte om vinteren. For øvrig er ikke<br />isen til hinder for seilasen.</p>
<h3>Radiofyr<br />Det er ikke radiofyr i Sunnmørsfjordane.</h3>
