<p>Sundnessundet can be navigated by larger vessels. The southern part of the strait is, however, slightly unclean. If approaching from the north, stay mid-channel southwards with a course towards Fureholmen, then turn west around this and continue mid-channel between Vågsholmen and Ternholmen, or navigate between Sundnesøya and Fureholmen. For smaller vessels, there is also a route east around Sundnesøya and on both sides of Lauvøy.<br />In Sundnessundet, the current usually flows in from half tide rising to half tide falling, and out from half tide falling to half tide rising, and it can be very strong. During the spring snowmelt, the current usually flows outward, and during stormy westerly weather, inward.</p>

<p>Sundnessundet kan passeres av større fartøyer. Søndre delen av sundet er likevel litt urent. Kommer man fra N, holder man midtvaters S‑over med kurs på Fureholmen, svinger W om denne og videre midtvaters mellom Vågsholmen og Ternholmen, eller man går mellom Sundnesøya og Fureholmen. For mindre fartøyer er det også løp E om Sundnesøya og på begge sidene av Lauvøy.<br />I Sundnessundet går strømmen vanligvis inn fra halvflødd til halvfallen sjø og ut fra halvfallen til halvflødd sjø, og den kan være meget sterk. Under snøsmeltingen om våren setter strømmen vanligvis utover, under stormfullt W‑lig vær, innover.</p>
