<p>Fourteen nautical miles NE into the land goes Jøsenfjorden, narrow and wild, barely 2 cables wide towards the bottom. The fjord sides are very steep on both sides, especially on the S-side, where there is practically no settlement. The innermost, narrow part of the fjord has almost vertical, partially polished rock on both sides.<br />The tidal current is insignificant. The current generally follows the wind direction. With large freshwater inflows (which are rare after regulation in connection with power plant construction) and simultaneous wind into the fjord, the current flows out on the N-side and in on the S-side of the fjord.<br />There are few harbors in the fjord, where the wind can blow in and out with great force. Even Tøtlandsvika, which is the only anchorage on the S-side of the fjord, is less favorable in NW gales. The few places along the N-side of the fjord that can be considered as anchorages are only suitable for small vessels that can anchor close to the shore in relatively deep water. The anchorage must also be chosen by taking into account the wind direction. Shorelines and stern moorings (to stones or similar) should be used everywhere. At the bottom of the fjord, there is a clay bottom.</p>

<p>Fjorten nautiske mil NE-over inn i landet går Jøsenfjorden, trang og vill, snaue 2 kbl bred mot bunnen. Fjordsidene er på begge sider meget bratte, særlig på S-siden, hvor det praktisk talt heller ikke er bebyggelse. Den innerste, trange delen av fjorden har nesten loddrett, delvis blankskrapt fjell på begge sidene.<br />Tidevannsstrømmen er ubetydelig. Strømmen følger stort sett vindretningen. Ved stor tilførsel av ferskvann (noe som er sjelden etter reguleringen i forbindelse med kraftverkutbygging) og samtidig vind inn fjorden, går strømmen ut på N-siden og inn på S-siden av fjorden.<br />Det er dårlig med havner i fjorden, hvor vinden kan blåse inn og ut med stor styrke. Selv Tøtlandsvika, som er eneste ankerplassen på S-siden av fjorden, er mindre god i NW-kuling. De få stedene langs N-siden av fjorden som kan komme på tale som ankerplasser, er bare brukbare for småfartøyer som kan ankre kloss i land på forholdsvis dypt vann. Ankerplassen må også velges idet man tar hensyn til vindretningen. Landtau og akterfortøyning (til stein eller liknende) bør brukes overalt. Ved bunnen av fjorden er det leirbunn.</p>
