| description_en | <p>North of inner Sula, the Åfjord extends approximately 11 nautical miles eastward. At its innermost point, it splits into two arms, Sørfjorden and Hyllestadfjorden. The fjord is clean and deep with few good harbors. The landscape on the north side is relatively low. Further in, it becomes steeper, with the fjord's south side turning into sheer, desolate stretches.<br />Small vessels are warned against staying too close to the mountainside, as there is a risk of rockfalls. Along the low part of the fjord's side, the terrain is relatively lush.<br />In Åfjorden, including Sørfjorden and Hyllestadfjorden, no strong tidal currents are observed.<br />During northwesterly winds, the incoming current is strongest along the south side of the fjord, and the outgoing current is strongest along the north side. During southwesterly winds, the opposite is true. Southerly winds are the most troublesome, as they often result in strong gusts from the mountains.</p> |

Under SW‑lig vind er det motsatte tilfellet. Det er S‑lig vind som er mest sjenerende, da det gjerne blir sterk kastevind fra fjellene.</p> |
