<p>Øksfjord is the administrative center of Loppa municipality. In addition to municipal services, it has a health center, district doctor/dentist, parish priest, and police chief.<br />Moreover, it has postal services, a bank, an inn, and several shops. The local economy is primarily based on fishing and fish processing. There are some factories, include a woodworking factory and a mechanical workshop with a slipway.<br />Øksfjord is serviced daily by northbound and southbound coastal express routes and is a hub for local ferry traffic. Coastal cargo ships and other freighters load and unload in the harbor. Vessels of up to 7000 tons dw have docked at the quays.<br />There is a road connection to the E6 at Langfjordbotn (38 km). A ferry route connects to Tverrfjord. There is year-round road access through the Øksfjord tunnel, approximately 4.2 km long.</p>

Stedet har sitt næringsgrunnlag vesentlig basert på fiske og fiskeindustri. Her er fórfabrikk og isoporfabrikk. Av annen industri kan nevnes trevarefabrikk og mekanisk verksted med slipp.<br />Øksfjord anløpes daglig av N- og S-gående hurtigrute, og er knutepunkt for lokalrutebåttrafik en. Kystgodsrutebåter og andre lastebåter laster og losser i havnen. Fartøyer på opptil 7000 tonn dw har ligget ved kaiene.<br />Det er veiforbindelse med E6 ved Langfjordbotn (38 km). Ferjeforbindelse til Tverrfjord. Helårs veiforbindelse gjennom Øksfjordtunellen, ca 4,2 km. </p>

<p>Larger vessels can anchor south of the quay facilities, where the seabed slopes downwards. The best anchorage is towards Vassdalsbotn, which has good holding ground. Along the land on the east side of the bay, a ground chain is laid out about 70 meters from the shore. During southeast gales, there are often violent gusts of wind out of Vassdalen.</p>

<p>Større fartøyer kan ankre S for kaianlegget, avfallende bunn. Den beste ankerplassen er innover mot Vassdalsbotn, god holdebunn. Langs landet på E-siden av bukta er det utlagt en bunnkjetting ca 70 m fra land. Ved SE-lig kuling blir det ofte voldsom kastevind ut Vassdalen.</p>
