Ålesund city is situated on <a href="ssr:402706" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="62.47421" data-lng="6.16978" data-municipality="Ålesund" data-type="Øy i sjø">Nørvøya</a>, <a href="ssr:738950" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="62.47142" data-lng="6.13872" data-municipality="Ålesund" data-type="Øy i sjø">Aspøya</a>, and <a href="ssr:617941" data-county="Møre og Romsdal" data-lat="62.45912" data-lng="6.11829" data-municipality="Ålesund" data-type="Øy i sjø">Hessa</a>. The city has daily bus, boat, and ferry connections with Molde, Åndalsnes, Kristiansund, and Trondheim, and has good route boat and ferry links with the fishing and agricultural districts in Sunnmøre. The city is visited daily by both northbound and southbound Hurtigruten coastal express ships and by cargo route boats, and there are routes to most major ports in Europe and North and South America.</p>
<p>Through Vigra Airport, Ålesund has flight connections both domestically and internationally.</p>
<p>The city is one of our most important export ports for clipfish and stockfish, but a considerable amount of other fish products are also exported. The city has several freezing and cooling facilities. Additionally, the city has a number of other industrial facilities. The most important import goods are salt, fuel and lubricating oils, machinery, and manufactured goods.</p>
<p>The city has a maritime school and hospital. The Ship Control Office is located at Tollbugt 10 and the Customs Service at Lorkenesgt 3. The Ship Radio Control and Det Norske Veritas have an inspector in the city. A salvage boat is stationed in the harbour. There are large and small tugboats available.</p>
<p>Ålesund harbour, together with the municipalities of Giske, Haram, and Sula, has collaborated to form the Ålesund Region Port Authority, ÅRH. Additionally, there is administrative cooperation with Hareid municipality.</p>
<h3>Sailing Information</h3>
<p>A bridge with a 17 m free sailing height spans Steinvågsundet, separating Heissa and Aspøya. Between Aspøya and Nørvøya, there is a narrow channel – Brusundet – with a minimum depth of 3 m. There are three bridges over the channel, with heights from north of 3.1–3.2 and 3.2 m. Note that the southernmost bridge is lowered to dock level when transport is taking place between Prestebrygga and Storneskaia! Nørvøya is connected to the mainland by bridges over the narrow, shallow Nørvasundet and the inlet to Skodjevika.</p>
<h3>Guest Harbour</h3>
<p>- Scandic Hotel, guest jettie with water and electricity.<br>- Ekornes Dock, 66 m stone quay. Electricity and water.<br>- Ålesund Guest Harbour, 140 m floating/guest jetty, water, electricity, and toilet.</p>
<h3>Ship Traffic</h3>
<p>The inner harbour area between Brusundet and the pier light is quite narrow, and there can be heavy traffic at times. The harbour is protected by a breakwater extending from Aspøya towards Skansekaia, which limits the harbour to the north. Westerly and northwesterly seas can cause some swell in the harbour. Smaller fishing vessels usually stay in the inner harbour, but during stormy winter weather, they often have to seek shelter at the docks in Aspevågen.</p>
<p>There is lively traffic through Steinvågsundet, and vessels must not obstruct this route.</p>
<p>In the inner harbour, in Skutevika, and in Steinvågsundet, it is forbidden to let vessels swing at anchor, nor may vessels anchor outside the harbour entrance if this obstructs traffic, or too close to the docks, interfering with berthing or departures.</p>
<p>Within the harbour district, powered vessels shall not use speed greater than is consistent with good seamanship and the vessel’s maneuverability. Under no circumstances should the speed be so high that it causes damaging sea waves that can endanger or damage other vessels or harbour facilities.</p>
<p>When entering the inner harbour or Steinvågsundet, and there is a risk of collision with an outgoing vessel, the incoming vessel shall wait at a sufficient distance outside the entrances until the outgoing vessel is well clear of the pier light or the lights in Steinvågsundet.</p>

<p>Byen er en av våre viktigste utskipningshavner for klippfisk og tørrfisk, men det eksporteres også en mengde andre fiskeprodukter. Byen har flere fryserier og kjøleanlegg. Byen har også en rekke andre industrielle anlegg. De viktigste importvarer er salt, brensel- og smøreoljer, maskingods og manufakturvarer.</p>
<p>Det er maritim skole og sykehus i byen. Skipskontrollen har kontor i Tollbugt 10 og Tollvesenet Lorkenesgt 3. Skipsradiokontrollen og Det norske Veritas har besiktigelsesmann i byen. Bergingsbåt er stasjonert i havna. Det finnes store og mindre slepebåter.</p>
<p>Ålesund havn, har sammen med kommunene Giske, Haram og Sula gått sammen og dannet Ålesundregionens havnevesen, ÅRH. I tillegg er det et administrativt samarbeid med Hareid kommune.</p>

<h3>Seilingsinformasjon</h3>
<p>Over Steinvågsundet, som skiller Heissa og Aspøya, fører bru med fri seilingshøyde 17 m. Mellom Aspøya og Nørvøya er en smal kanal – Brusundet – med minste dybde 3 m. Det er 3 bruer over kanalen, høyder fra N 3,1-3,2 og 3,2 m. Vær oppmerksom på at den S-ligste brua blir senket til kaiplan når det foregår transport mellom Prestebrygga og Storneskaia! Nørvøya er forbundet med fastlandet med bruer over det trange og grunne Nørvasundet og over innløpet til Skodjevika.</p>
<h3>Skipstrafikk</h3>
<p>Indre havneområde mellom Brusundet og mololykten er temmelig trangt, og det kan til tider være stor trafikk der. Havna er beskyttet av molo fra Aspøya i retning mot Skansekaia som begrenser havna mot N. W- og NW-lig sjø kan sette en del drag i havna. Mindre fiskefartøyer pleier å ligge innerst i Indre havn, men ved stormfullt vær om vinteren er de ofte nødt til å søke inn til kaiene i Aspevågen.</p>
<p>Det er livlig trafikk gjennom Steinvågsundet, og fartøyer må ikke legge seg i veien for denne.</p>
<p>På Indre havn, i Skutevika og i Steinvågsundet er det forbudt å legge fartøyer på svai, heller ikke må fartøyer ankre utenfor havneinnløpet, slik at trafikken sjeneres, eller så nær kaiene at tillegg eller avgang hindres.</p>
<p>Maskindrevne fartøyer skal innen havnedistriktet ikke bruke større fart enn god sjømannsskikk og fartøyets manøvrering tilsier. Ikke under noen omstendighet må farten være så stor at det oppstår skadesjø som kan volde skade eller fare for andre fartøyer eller for anleggene i havna.</p>
<p>Når det ved innseiling til Indre havn eller til Steinvågsundet kan være fare for sammenstøt med utgående fartøy, skal inngående fartøy vente i tilstrekkelig avstand utenfor innløpene inntil det utgående fartøy ergodt klar av mololykten eller av lyktene i Steinvågsundet.</p>

<p>In Aspevågen, there is anchorage for both large and small vessels, with depths of 20–40 m, muddy bottom. Fall winds can occur in Aspevågen. The best anchorage for larger vessels is just north of Heissaskaret. Small vessels and boats can anchor in Nørvevika and Sørnesvågen on a sandy bottom, with mooring bolts.</p><p>Skutevika is protected to the south by a long breakwater with a quay along the inside and serves as a good harbour in all weather except easterly and southeasterly gales.<br />In Steinvågen, there is a harbour for both larger and smaller vessels. Anchoring is possible at depths of 6–19 m, muddy bottom.</p><p> </p>

<p>I Aspevågen er ankerplass for store så vel som for små fartøyer, dybde 20–40 m, sølebunn. I Aspevågen kan fallvinder forekomme. Den beste ankerplassen for større fartøyer er rett N for Heissaskaret. Småfartøyer og båter kan ankre i Nørvevika og Sørnesvågen på sandbunn, fortøyningsbolter. </p>
<p>Skutevika er beskyttet mot S av lang molo med kai langs innsiden og er god havn i allslags vær unntagen i E- og SE-lig kuling.<br />I Steinvågen er det havn for så vel større som mindre fartøyer. Det kan ankres på 6–19 m dybde, sølebunn.</p>
