<p><a href="ssr:966478">Longyearbyen</a> is the centre of the local administration on <a href="ssr:586988">Svalbard</a> and has the following representatives of the Norwegian Administration: the District Governor, Mayor, priest and others. There is a post office for Svalbard also situated in Longyearbyen.</p>
<p>Svalbard airport on Hotelneset has daily services to Tromsø and Oslo. The airport also serves the service planes from Ny-Ålesund and small aircraft and helicopters that are used for communications within Svalbard.<br>ISPS Terminal.</p>
<p>On the inner side of «Gamlekaia» there are also workshops, the power station and a number of warehouses. From here the road rises up to the State buildings, the District Governor’s offic, the mayor’s office and the church.<br>Further up the valley, on the same side, is the Assembly House which includes a refreshments kiosk, cinema, cafe and restaurant. On the other side of the valley, a little further in, is «Nybyen» with a huge block of apartments. From here the road then goes down again to «Haugen» with the school, hospital, office uildings and a number of family residences.<br>The town ends in the direction of the fjord head with a number family houses and flats along Hilmar Rekstenvei. The post office is also in this area, together with a bank, cafeteria, businesses, hotels and the new commercial buildings, including the District Governors Office, the tourist office, travel agents and the university.</p>
<h3>Tide and Current Information</h3>
<p>Navigators must be aware of the current along the quays that follow the tidal stream in and out of the fjord.</p>
<h3>Guest Docks</h3>
<p>Tourist pier, 220 m floating quay and a 80m rib pier with docking on both sides. <br>Electricity and water. </p>

<p><a href="ssr:966478">Longyearbyen</a> er sentrum for den lokale administrasjonen av <a href="ssr:586988">Svalbard</a>, idet representanter for den norske statsadministrasjonen har sitt sete her; Sysselmann, bergmester, sogneprest m fl. Postkontoret for Svalbard ligger også i Longyearbyen. Her er også ISPS-terminal.</p>
<p>Byen er delt opp i atskilte områder, dette av hensyn til brannsikkerheten.<br>Innenfor «Gamlekaia» ligger foruten verkstedene, kraftstasjonen og endel lagerhus. Herfra går veien opp til Statens bygninger og sysselmestergården.<br>Lengre opp i dalen, på samme side, ligger forsamlingshuset med blant annet kiosk, kino, kafe og restaurant. På den andre siden av dalen, noe lenger inn går veien videre nedover igjen til «Haugen» med skolen, sykehuset, kontorbygninger og en del familieboliger.<br>I dette området ligger også postkontoret, bank, kafeteria, forretning, hoteller og det nye næringsbygget med bl.a. sysselmesterkontoret, turistkontor, reisebyrå og universitetet.</p>
<p>Svalbard lufthavn på Hotellneset har daglig flysamband med Tromsø og Oslo. I tillegg til Ny-Ålesund samt småfly og helikoptre som benyttes for kommunikasjon innen Svalbard.<br><br></p>
<h3>Gjestehavn</h3>
<p>Småbåthavna (To-takteren) med flytebrygge for vann-, bensin- og dieselfylling (kortautomat).<br>Flytebrygger for ca 130 faste båtplasser.<br>Seilbåtbrygga, 45 m flytekai, strøm og vann. <br>Turistkaia, 220 m flytekai, strøm, vann- og dieselfylling (kortautomat).<br>Rib brygga, 80 m flytekai med tillegg på begge sider.</p>
<h3>Strøm og tidevannsforhold</h3>
<p>En må være oppmerksom på en del strøm langs kaiene som følger tidevannet ut og inn fjorden.</p>
