<p>The city of Kristiansand is an administrative center for the Agder counties. Kristiansand’s economy is well balanced, with a focus on industry, trade, shipping, and the service sector.</p><p>The city has good road and rail connections with the rest of the country. The bus service between the neighboring cities and rural areas is well developed. From Kjevik airport, Kristiansand has flight connections with domestic and international destinations.</p><p>The main imports are gasoline, nickel matte, ore, iron, cement, and raw aluminum. On the export side, the main goods are aluminum, nickel, copper, ferrosilicon, electrode paste, and quartz.</p><p>The harbor is visited by most coastal route ships and has regular cargo connections to the main ports in Scandinavia, the European continent, Great Britain, South/North America, and Canada. A prominent feature of today’s harbor landscape is the car ferries and high-speed boats on the route to Hirtshals, a large number of specialist ships, and the rapidly developing container traffic.</p><p>Kristiansand’s port have modern facilities for goods and passengers. The harbor is kept open for traffic even during severe ice winters.</p><p>The University of Agder is also located here.</p><p> </p><h3>Ship Traffic</h3><p>All vessels over 50 grt must report entry/exit to/from the harbor on VHF channel 12 to the harbor watch.</p><p>In Byfjorden, there is a measured nautical mile with leading marks on Revholmane and Dvergsøya, true course 150°-330°, see sea chart no 459.</p><p> </p><h3>Current and Tide Conditions</h3><p>Current variations are minimal. <p>Kristiansand by er et forvaltningssentrum for Agderfylkene. Kristiansands næringsliv er vel avbalansert med hovedvekten på industri, handel, skipsfart og service-næringen.</p>
<p>Byen har god vei- og jernbaneforbindelse med det øvrige land. Rutebiltrafikken med nabobyene og landdistriktet er godt utbygget. Fra Kjevik flyplass har Kristiansand flyforbindelse med inn- og utland.</p>
<p>De viktigste vareslag som importeres er bensin, nikkelmatte, malm, jern, sement og råaluminium. På eksportsiden er de viktigste vareslag aluminium, nikkel, kobber, ferrosilisium, elektrodemasse og kvarts.</p>
<p>Havna anløpes av de fleste kystrutebåter, og har ellers godsruteforbindelser til de viktigste havner i Skandinavia, det europeiske kontinent, Storbritannia, Syd-/Nord-Amerika og Canada. Et markant trekk i dagens havnebilde er bilferjene og hurtigbåt i rute på Hirtshals, et stort antall spesialskip og containertrafikken som er under rask utvikling.</p>
<p>Utbyggingen av Kristiansands havn med moderne anlegg for gods og passasjerer har holdt følge med tiden. Havna holdes åpen for trafikk selv under strenge isvintrer.</p>
