<p>Andenes is the municipal center for Andøy municipality. In addition to municipal services, there are shops of many kinds, post office, bank, hotel, guesthouse, café, etc. Medical center, dentist, and pharmacy. Sports and swimming hall.<br />Andenes is located on the northern tip of Andøya, and is Vesterålen's largest and one of the country's largest fishing villages. A large amount of fish is processed here annually, with significant quantities going to export.<br />Immediately south of the settlement lies the airport, which is the municipality's largest workplace, with air connections to Tromsø and Bodø. Bus connections with Risøyhamn (50 km), corresponding with the coastal express boats. The nearest customs office is in Stokmarknes.<br />The harbor is protected by 5 large breakwater structures. Large parts of the harbor area are filled with reefs and skerries, many marked with iron rods.<br />Occasional visits by coastal cargo routes and smaller cargo boats. There is a heavy lift crane in the harbor.</p>

<p>The difference between mean high and low spring tides in Andenes is 1.74 m.<br />High and low tide occur about 35 minutes earlier than in Tromsø.</p>

<p>Andenes er kommunesenter for Andøy kommune. Foruten de kommunale tjenester er her forretninger av mange slag, post, bank, hotell, gjestgiveri, kafé mm. Legesenter, tannlege og apotek. Idretts- og svømmehall. <br />Andenes ligger på N-pynten av Andøya, er Vesterålens største og et av landets største fiskevær. Her foredles store mengder fisk årlig, hvorav betydelige kvanta går til eksport.<br />Straks S for bebyggelsen ligger flyplassen, som er kommunens største arbeidsplass, med flyforbindelse til Tromsø og Bodø. Bussforbindelse med Risøyhamn (50 km), i korrespondanse med hurtigrutene. Nærmeste tollsted er Stokmarknes.<br />Havnen er beskyttet av 5 store moloanlegg. Store deler av havneområdet er oppfylt av grunner og skjær, mange er merket med jernstenger.<br />En gang iblant anløp av kystgodsruten og mindre lastebåter. Det er tungløftskran i havnen.</p>

<p>Larger vessels anchor on the bank within the eastern breakwater. Smaller vessels anchor somewhat further south. Between Sennholmen and the western breakwater, there is also an anchorage for small vessels, with less firm holding ground of sand and stone. The harbor is safe in all weather conditions.</p>

<p>Større fartøyer ankrer på flaket innenfor østre molo. Mindre fartøyer noe lengre S. Mellom Sennholmen og vestre molo er det også ankerplass for småfartøyer, mindre god holdebunn, sand og stein. Havnen er trygg under alle værforhold.</p>
