Lauvøyfjorden is bordered by Averøya, the chain of islands stretching from Averøya to Vevang, and the mainland. From the outer fairway, several inlets lead into the fjord between these islands, but when navigating through them, one must be cautious of the current, which is strongest at half tide and reportedly can reach up to 4 knots. Especially with winds from the northwest, heavy seas can build up when the current is flowing out, making the straits difficult to pass. The current flows out with falling tide and in with rising tide. Lauvøyfjorden is generally clear of hazards.
\nLauvøyfjorden begrenses av Averøya, øyrekken fra Averøya over til Vevang og fastlandet. Fra ytre lei fører flere innløp inn til fjorden mellom disse øyene, men ved passering av løpene må man gi akt på strømmen, som går sterkest på halv sjø, etter sigende opptil 4 knop. Især med vind fra NW settes det voldsom sjø når strømmen løper ut, slik at sundene da kan være vanskelige å passere. Strømmen løper ut med fallende og inn med stigende vann. Lauvøyfjorden er stort sett ren.
