Tingvollfjorden, with its extension Sunndalsfjorden, cuts approximately 25 nautical miles southeast into the land from Bergsøyfjorden. The fjord is surrounded by forested hills and mountains. Along the outer and middle parts of the fjord, there are numerous settlements, mostly clustered in small communities. In the inner part of the fjord, the settlements are somewhat more sparse.

The fjord is fairly clear, and navigation is straightforward.

Tingvollfjorden med forlengelsen Sunndalsfjorden skjærer seg ca 25 nautiske mil SE-over inn i landet fra Bergsøyfjorden. Fjorden er omgitt av skogkledde åser og fjell. Langs ytre og midtre del av fjorden er det atskillig bebyggelse, for det meste samlet i grender. I den indre delen av fjorden er bebyggelsen noe mer sparsom.

Fjorden er ganske ren, og seilasen er grei.
