Imarsundet stretches from Strandafjorden between Stabblandet and Ertvågsøya , heading north-northwest into Edøyfjorden. The strait is relatively clear, and the shoals that may pose a danger to navigation are marked.

The current flows northward during rising tide and southward during falling tide.

A bridge crosses Imarsundet— Imarsundbrua — between Aukan and Jørnøya, with a clearance height of 12 meters, and another bridge crosses Litlsundet— Litlsundbrua — between Jørnøya and the mainland, with a clearance height of 17 meters. The bridges were opened in January 2007.

There are several good harbors and anchoring spots in the strait.

Bru over Imarsundet, Imarsundbrua, Aukan-Jørnøya, friseilingshøyde 12 m og over Litlsundet, Litlsundbrua, Jørnøya-fastlandet, friseilingshøyde 17 m. Bruene ble åpnet i januar 2007.

Det er flere gode havner og ankringsplasser i sundet.
