        "description_en":"<p>In Svalbard, there are several special conditions you should be particularly aware of before you set out on a voyage. Be aware that there are large areas that have not been surveyed yet.</p>\n<h3>Paper charts in polar regions&nbsp;</h3>\n<p>The nautical charts in Svalbard do not have the same scale as in mainland Norway.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The scale is 1:100,000, i.e. they cover larger areas and are much less detailed than those in mainland Norway. Large parts of Nordaustlandet are still covered by General charts (505 and 507) on a scale of 1: 700,000.</p>\n<p>Although there are a few special and harbour maps on a larger scale, the level of detail along the coast of Svalbard is lower than along the Norwegian coast.&nbsp;</p>\n<h3>Electronic nautical charts (ENC) in polar regions&nbsp;</h3>\n<p>Norwegian ENCs are divided into different scale classes depending on the purpose of the navigation (Usage Band), following recommendations from the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). In the ENCs that cover Svalbard, there are some differences compared to the ENCs on the Norwegian coast.</p>\n<h3>Data quality of the depth information</h3>\n<p>In the official electronic nautical charts (ENC), there is a separate data layer that tells you what the quality of the depth data is in the area. The Norwegian Mapping Authority follows international standards and, based on what we know about surveying method, positioning instrument, depth accuracy and data coverage, has classified the data quality of the depth data in Norwegian nautical charts.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>In the paper charts, you can find this information in the map's ZOC diagram.</p>\n<p><strong>Quality categories (CATZOC) in Norwegian nautical charts for Svalbard:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>A1:Full area search undertaken. Significant seafloor features detected, and depths measured.</li>\n<li>A2: Full area search undertaken. Significant seafloor features detected, and depths measured. Modern depth surveying with multibeam sonar classified as slightly lower accuracy than A1.&nbsp;</li>\n<li>B: Full seafloor coverage not achieved; uncharted features, hazardous to surface navigation are not expected but may exist.</li>\n<li>C: Full area search not achieved; depth anomalies may be expected.</li>\n<li>D: Full area search not achieved; large depth anomalies may be expected.</li>\n<li>U: Unassessed - The quality of the bathymetric data has not been assessed.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<h3>Other special conditions to consider when travelling in Svalbard&nbsp;</h3>\n<p><strong>Shallow areas along the landside&nbsp;</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>To ensure the safety of crew and vessels when surveying in Svalbard, areas that are shallower than 3 metres will often not be surveyed.</li>\n<li>There can be significant errors in the coastal contour in the nautical charts, depending on where the information is collected from.</li>\n<li>The coastline can be changeable &ndash; especially at large river deltas and glacier fronts.</li>\n<li>Along land, there may be zones where no surveying has been carried out, or data of poor quality may have been used. Due to map scale, such areas are not always readable in the paper maps.&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Glacier fronts</strong>&nbsp;</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Glacier fronts in the sea often change. In front of glacier fronts in the sea, there are major changes in the depth conditions, and the depth indications are therefore uncertain.</li>\n<li>The areas in front of the glacier fronts must be considered as not surveyed. This must be considered when navigating these areas.</li>\n<li>Constant changes in the glacier fronts towards the sea can mean that there is a significant deviation between the actual glacier front and the one shown in the map. In areas where the glacier fronts have receded compared to the one indicated in the nautical chart, there is no depth information.</li>\n<li>Old sight lines based on reference points in glaciers should not be used.&nbsp;<br>\u202f&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Ships must operate at a safe distance from glacier fronts. Disse er kodet som Unsurveyed Area (UNSARE).</p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<h3>Andre spesielle forhold &aring; ta hensyn til ved ferdsel p&aring; Svalbard</h3>\n<p><strong>Grunne omr&aring;der langs land</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>For &aring; ivareta sikkerheten til mannskap og fart&oslash;y ved sj&oslash;m&aring;ling p&aring; Svalbard vil omr&aring;der som er grunnere enn 3 meter ofte v&aelig;re um&aring;lt.</li>\n<li>Det kan v&aelig;re betydelige feil i kystkonturen i sj&oslash;kartene avhengig hvor informasjonen er hentet fra.</li>\n<li>Kystlinjen kan v&aelig;re skiftende &ndash; s&aelig;rlig ved store elveutl&oslash;p og brefronter.</li>\n<li>Langs land kan det v&aelig;re soner hvor det ikke er sj&oslash;m&aring;lt, eller s&aring; kan det v&aelig;re brukt data med d&aring;rlig kvalitet. P&aring; grunn av kartm&aring;lestokk er slike omr&aring;der ikke alltid lesbare i papirkartene.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Isbrefronter</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brefronter i sj&oslash;en forandres ofte. Foran isbrefronter i sj&oslash;en skjer det store endringer i dybdeforholdene, og dybdeangivelsene er derfor usikre.</li>\n<li>Omr&aring;dene foran isbrefrontene m&aring; anses som ikke sj&oslash;m&aring;lt. Dette m&aring; tas i betraktning n&aring;r navigering utf&oslash;res i disse omr&aring;dene.</li>\n<li>Stadig endringer i brefrontene mot sj&oslash;en kan medf&oslash;re at det er et betydelig avvik mellom faktisk brefront og den som er vist i kartet. I omr&aring;der hvor brefrontene har trukket seg tilbake sammenlignet med den som er angitt i sj&oslash;kartet, finnes det ikke dybdeinformasjon.</li>\n<li>Gamle siktelinjer basert p&aring; referansepunkt i isbreer b&oslash;r ikke brukes.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Skip skal opereres i sikker avstand til brefronter.
