The outer part of the sound is relatively gentle and forested with some settlement, while further in it transitions to steep mountains with several waterfalls, before flattening out again at the innermost end. There are a few farms here, which are otherwise without road connections, making it so that when the fjord freezes, most people move to&nbsp;<a href=\"ssr:430660\" data-county=\"Vestland\" data-lat=\"60.38668\" data-lng=\"6.20074\" data-municipality=\"Kvam\" data-type=\"Tettsted\">&Oslash;ystese</a>&nbsp;during the coldest period. Usually, the&nbsp;<a href=\"ssr:611401\" data-county=\"Vestland\" data-lat=\"60.46236\" data-lng=\"6.21571\" data-municipality=\"Kvam\" data-type=\"Fjord\">Fyksesund</a> is calm and sheltered, but during gales from certain directions, especially from the E, downdrafts can create high waves between the mountains.</p>",
