The southern part of the narrow fjord W and NW of Varaldsøy is locally called Øynefjorden, while Bondesund is the name for the northern part.
The terrain around the southern part of Øynefjorden is low. It becomes higher and steeper towards the north, especially on the Varaldsøy side, while the area on the north side of Bondesund becomes flatter again, with little habitation.
