        "description_en":"<p>Under generally good weather conditions, the current flows inward, towards the E, from about 4.5 hours after high tide to about 1.5 hours before high tide, and outward, towards the W, from about 1.5 hours before high tide to about 4.5 hours after high tide.<br />About 4.5 hours before high tide, the current is strongest towards the inland under Lofotodden, in the main current (in the middle of the strait), and under Keilholmen. As the water rises, the current slackens under Lofotodden and Keilholmen, and about 3 hours before high tide, the current has reversed in these areas while the main current in the middle of the strait and W of Lofotodden (at Hella) still flows toward the E. At Lofotodden, the current change occurs by an \"eddy\" spreading from E to W. In the area between the E-going main current and the W-current under Lofotodden, a strong current ridge forms. This current ridge is called Strinna and can be dangerous for smaller vessels.<br />The main current now slackens quite quickly while the outgoing currents on the N- and S-sides increase. About 1.5 hours before high tide, it lies still for a moment, then turns towards S and W, first E in the current then W.<br />From now on, the entire current sets towards the W with steadily increasing strength, until it reaches its greatest strength under land at high tide, while it lags slightly in the middle of the strait.<br />The main current still increases in strength until it reaches its greatest speed about 4.5 hours after high tide, while the current under land has already begun to slacken. From now on, the speed of the main current also slackens, and E of Lofotodden (Ytretuven), the current splits again, with part of it bending northward along the inner side of Lofoten. At Tjeldholmen, the current turns N and E (about 3 hours after high tide). On the edge of the main current, the high current ridge (Strinna) rises again.<br />The speed in the main current now decreases quite quickly, while the eddy under Lofotodden simultaneously pulls towards the W. About 4.5 hours after high tide, the main current turns, now also first E in the strait and later W. The direction of the current in the eddy is \"clockwise\u201d. At low tide, the incoming current has its greatest speed under the land, while it increases in strength in the middle of the strait up to about 4.5 hours before high tide.<br />The direction and speed of the current depend a lot on the wind and weather. With a W-lig storm at sea, it often runs always E-over both with rising and falling water during the winter. At high tide, it may either slacken a bit or be still for a moment, but immediately increases again and continues E-over. If in this case the sea state is also increasing, the speed of the current becomes extra large when the water rises, and the Moskstraumen is then impassable for smaller vessels.<br />It often happens in the winter that a westward storm bank stands out at sea and sets in a huge sea, while clear weather inland gives land wind and a standing E-lig wind out Vestfjorden. Particularly in this case, the current is dangerous, as two layers of sea and current meet and can turn the entire current into a single surf.<br />The stronger the current runs, the larger the sea becomes, and the more irregular the whirlpools. Therefore, it is not advisable for smaller vessels to enter or exit the Moskstraumen in stormy weather in winter. But with steady wind after several days of good weather, there is nothing to prevent passage in the summer.<br />Nothing specific can be said about the speed of the current, but it is said that ships with up to 10 knots speed have not been able to advance. But the rumors about the danger of larger vessels in the current \u2013 the Maelstrom \u2013 are greatly exaggerated. It runs strongest at the narrowest point between R\u00f8d\u00f8ya and Keilholmen, and much stronger under Lofotodden than at the islets.</p>\n<p>Herjeskallen (east in the strait) is noticeable even in calm weather, as the water, without breaking, always seems to boil and churn over it, creating a foamy white surface.</p>",

I omr&aring;det mellom den E-g&aring;ende hovedstr&oslash;mmen og den W-str&oslash;mmen under Lofotodden danner det seg en sterk str&oslash;mskavl. Str&oslash;mskavlen blir kalt Strinna og kan v&aelig;re farlig for mindre fart&oslash;y.<br />Hovedstr&oslash;mmen slakner n&aring; temmelig raskt mens de utoverg&aring;ende str&oslash;mmene p&aring; N- og S-siden &oslash;ker. Ca. 1,5 timer f&oslash;r h&oslash;yvann ligger den stille et &oslash;yeblikk for s&aring; &aring; dreie mot S og W, f&oslash;rst E i str&oslash;mmen s&aring; W for.<br />Fra n&aring; av setter hele str&oslash;mmen W-over med stadig &oslash;kende styrke, inntil den ved flo har n&aring;dd sin st&oslash;rste styrke under land, mens den ligger noe etter midt i sundet.<br />Hovedstr&oslash;mmen &oslash;ker enn&aring; i styrke, inntil den har n&aring;dd sin st&oslash;rste hastighet ca. 4,5 timer etter h&oslash;yvann, mens str&oslash;mmen under land allerede har begynt &aring; slakne. Fra n&aring; av slakner ogs&aring; hovedstr&oslash;mmens fart, og E for Lofotodden (Ytretuven) deler igjen str&oslash;mmen seg, idet en del av den b&oslash;yer N-over langs innersiden av Lofoten. Ved Tjeldholmen snur str&oslash;mmen mot N og E (ca. 3 timer etter h&oslash;yvann). I kanten av hovedstr&oslash;mmen oppst&aring;r igjen den h&oslash;ye str&oslash;mskavlen (Strinna).<br />Farten i hovedstr&oslash;mmen avtar n&aring; temmelig raskt, mens bakevjen under Lofotodden samtidig trekker seg W-over. Ca. 4,5 timer etter h&oslash;yvann snur hovedstr&oslash;mmen, n&aring; ogs&aring; f&oslash;rst E i sundet og senere W. Retningen til str&oslash;mmen i bakevjen er &laquo;med urviseren&raquo;. Ved lavvann har den innoverg&aring;ende str&oslash;mmen sin st&oslash;rste hastighet under land, mens den midt i sundet &oslash;ker i styrke helt til ca. 4,5 timer f&oslash;r h&oslash;yvann.<br />Str&oslash;mmens retning og fart avhenger mye av vind og v&aelig;r. Med W-lig storm i havet l&oslash;per den om vinteren ofte alltid E-over b&aring;de med stigende og fallende vann. Ved h&oslash;yvann kan den da enten slakne litt eller v&aelig;re stille et &oslash;yeblikk, men &oslash;ker straks igjen og setter fortsatt E-over. Dersom i dette tilfelle ogs&aring; sj&oslash;gangen er &oslash;kende, blir str&oslash;mmens hastighet ekstra stor n&aring;r vannet stiger, og Moskstraumen er da ufarbar for mindre fart&oslash;yer.<br />Det hender ofte om vinteren at vestastormbanken st&aring;r ute i havet og setter sv&aelig;r sj&oslash; inn, mens klart v&aelig;r inne i landet gir landvind og en st&aring;ende E-lig vind ut Vestfjorden. S&aelig;rlig i dette tilfellet er straumen farlig, da to lags sj&oslash; og str&oslash;m m&oslash;tes og kan gj&oslash;re hele straumen til en eneste brenning.<br />Jo sterkere str&oslash;mmen l&oslash;per, desto st&oslash;rre blir sj&oslash;ene og desto mere uregelmessige str&oslash;mhvirvlene. Det er derfor ikke tilr&aring;delig for mindre fart&oslash;yer &aring; g&aring; Moskstraumen inn eller ut om vinteren i stormende v&aelig;r. Men med st&aring;ende vind etter flere dagers godt v&aelig;r er det om sommeren ikke noe i veien for &aring; passere.<br />Det kan ikke sies noe bestemt om str&oslash;mmens hastighet, men det fortelles at skip med inntil 10 knops fart ikke har kunnet avansere. Men ryktene om faren for st&oslash;rre fart&oslash;yer i str&oslash;mmen &ndash; Malstr&oslash;mmen &ndash; er sterkt overdrevet. Den l&oslash;per sterkest p&aring; det smaleste mellom R&oslash;d&oslash;ya og Keilholmen, og meget sterkere under Lofotodden enn ved holmene.</p>\n<p>Herjeskallen (&oslash;st i sundet) merkes til og med i stille v&aelig;r, da vannet, uten &aring; bryte, alltid likesom koker og maler over den og lager en skumhvit flate.</p>",
