Mosjøen is a town with just over 10 000 inhabitants (2025). It serves as the administrative centre of Vefsn municipality and is a regional hub for commerce, craftsmanship, finance, transport, and education. The town is an industrial centre with an aluminium plant as its major cornerstone industry. Other sectors include timber and sawmill operations, power production, workshop industries and various small\u2011scale industry.

Mosjøen is an important logistics and transport junction, featuring a container port, timber port, railway connection, and an airport. There are daily rail services to both Trondheim and Bodø. Car ferries and cargo vessels call at the port. Mosjøen Airport is located approximately 10\u202fkm from the town. The harbour area stretches from the Øya Bridge in the south to the municipal boundary with Leirfjord/Alstahaug in the north. The port is situated about 1\u202fkm north of the built\u2011up area.

Mosjøen er en by med i overkant av 10 000 inbyggere (2025). Byen er kommunesenter og regionalt senter for handel, håndverk, finans, transport og utdanning i Vefsn kommune. Det en industriby med et aluminiumsverk som en stor hjørnesteinsbedrift. I tillegg kan nevnes tømmer- og sagbruksindustri, kraftindustri, verksted og annen småindustri.

Mosjøen er et viktig knutepunkt i forhold til logistikk og transport, med blant annet containerhavn, tømmerhavn, jernbane og flyplass. Det er daglig jernbaneforbindelse med Trondheim og Bodø. Bilferje og godsruteskip anløper stedet. Mosjøen lufthavn ligger ca. 1 mil fra byen. Havneområdet strekker seg fra Øya bru i S til kommunegrensen Leirfjord/Alstahaug i N. Havna ligger ca. 1 km N for tettbebyggelsen.
