The city of Bod\u00f8 is the seat of the county governor and county administration of Nordland county.
The city has a beautiful location with a magnificent view of the wild and high mountains in the Bod\u00f8 area. From the heights around the city, on a clear day, one can see over the Vestfjord to the Lofoten wall.
The port of Bod\u00f8 has the status of a central port and is well developed and protected. There are several new pier facilities with storage sheds and equipment for modern cargo handling, two bunkering facilities for oil. Vessels up to 265 m in length and 11 m draft can be received.
The Coastal Express from Bergen and Kirkenes as well as the Vestfjord ferry have daily calls. There is heavy traffic from all types of cargo ships, and the city is the center for local boat traffic in the county. The Nordland railway has its terminus here. Large and world-famous airport with significant domestic and international traffic. The city has good bus connections with the rural district.

Inside the breakwater, a small boat harbor with guest spaces along the floating jettie upfront, with water and electricity. In Molobukta there are about 200 m of guest jettie, water and electricity. Service building with shower, toilet, and laundry. Open all year, for fishing and recreational boats. Dedicated harbor hostess from 25.6\u201315.8 who has a car equipped with VHF and mobile phone. For the rest of the year, contact the harbor office. The harbor office has a slipway at the service building.
All approaches to Bod\u00f8 are well marked.
Sailing through Nyholmsundet, to or from Bod\u00f8 port, one should be cautious of the sharp turn south of Nyholmen.
From R\u00f8ss\u00f8yleia and south over Saltfjorden, a white, well-visible sand shelf on the mountain on Fugl\u00f8ya is a good landmark for navigating between M\u00e5rnesskagen and Nordarn\u00f8ya.
The mean difference between spring high tide and spring low tide is 236 cm. Bod\u00f8 is a standard port in the Tide Tables, and information about tide sizes can be found there.
