Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes is located 44 km south of the city center.</p>\n\n<p>Harstad is a hub for local boat traffic in the district. There are daily calls from the northbound and southbound coastal express, fast boat routes to Troms\u00f8, and bus connections to Narvik, Vester\u00e5len, Lofoten, and Bod\u00f8.</p>\n\n<p>The entire port area, with the exception of the innermost bays, is ice-free in winter.</p>\n\n<p>The Customs Service, the Norwegian Maritime Authority, and Det Norske Veritas have offices in the town. The town has been designated as the main base for oil activities north of the 62nd parallel, and in this connection, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, Det Norske Oljeselskap, Lundin, and Aibel have offices here.</p>\n\n<h3>&nbsp;</h3>\n\n<h3>Current and tidal conditions</h3>\n\n<p>In Harstad, high and low tides occur approximately 30 minutes earlier than in Troms\u00f8.
