Holmestrand city is divided into a city center by the sea and several residential areas up in the mountains. In the city center below the mountain, there are 2 industrial facilities; Nordisk Aluminiumsindustri A/S and Statens Kornsilo. There is also some industry up in the mountains.
The city has good communication both by sea and land, with the Vestfold Railway Line and E-18 passing through the city. Daily bus and goods transportation to the inland.
Several small workshops that can perform minor repairs for ships can also be found in Holmestrand.
